Us vs. Them ad creatives do really well for a brand. But so many brands take it too far (get in trouble) or are too sloppy (and drive sales for their competition unintentionally).
I consider this an artform and please find my favorite examples of how to do this well. How to do this with grace...
An example that doesn't name names but actually totally does because look at the bottle. An example that leads with a fucking amazing offer, too. 52% off Today! (why is the T capitalized?):
An example that does the Us vs. Them via copywriting.
This example is set on a backdrop that speaks to the end user - athletes. Notice the social proof - 175+ Pro & College Teams pick Momentous. Because, you know, athletes.
It's classy but actually aggressive in the messaging. My team made this ad. β€οΈ
This example shows how to use Us vs. Them for RETARGETING. Notice how much is going on. My eyes go to the 45% off offer and the 3x the serving size. That's the point.
This example attacks a category and does so beautifully if I may say. Notice the 'not even close'. π
