The Anthropic S-1 dropped on Monday. While it left out share price ranges, the startup — which was founded in 2021 (insane) — is looking to fetch a reported valuation between $1.5T and $2T.
It’s a crazy story and we get a real look into the economics of a leading frontier AI operation. Never in the history of capitalism has a startup gone from $0 to $60B+ in annual revenue in under 6 years (equally ludicrous: Anthropic only burnt $10B of capital to get to this point).
In terms of revenue, Anthropic is already in the ballpark of global corporate juggernauts including Goldman Sachs ($70B TTM revenue; founded 1869), United Airlines ($66B; 1926), Pfizer ($64B; 1849), and Unilever ($60B, 1929) while also 30x Wendy’s ($2B, 1969). Impressive.
Within minutes of the S-1 release, the timeline was filled with “I just read the Anthropic S-1 and here are my 15 takeaways”. C’mon. No you didn’t. The document is over 400 pages.
You fed it to Claude — Anthropic’s frontier LLM named after the legendary mathematician Claude Shannon (aka “The Father of Information Theory” and juggling while on a unicycle enthusiast) — and asked for the juiciest numbers.
It took me a bit longer to digest and you can read my full take by smashing that blue button.
