Hey friends,

We’re so excited for Sunday’s 3rd annual Fintech Takes The Court.

You are signed up as a tournament player or a sub, so we’ll see you between 9:30-10am at UNLV. There are locker rooms for us if you need to change onsite.

Here's a quick rundown of how the tournament will go:

How it works

There are 12 teams of 3. We'll use 4 hoops across 2 courts.

Knockout round: You'll be grouped with 2 other teams at one hoop, and you'll play each team once. Games go to 15 points or 15 minutes, whatever comes first.

If you win both games, you move on. If everyone in your group goes 1–1, each team picks one person to shoot free throws. Last person to miss wins.

Semis: The winning teams from each basket on the same court play each other. Games go to 15 points or 20 minutes. If it's tied at 20 minutes, next basket wins.

Finals: The winning teams from the two courts play for the title. The two teams that lost in the semis play for 3rd place. The first team to get 15 points wins, no time limit.

The rules

We’re not playing make-it-take-it. After one team scores, the other team gets the ball.
Scoring is 1s and 2s. Inside the arc is 1 point. Outside the arc is 2.
No free throws. If you get fouled, your team gets the ball back at the top of the arc. If you make the shot and get fouled, you get the points and the ball back.
Check the ball after every basket, foul, or out of bounds.
After a live-ball rebound, take it back behind the arc before you shoot.
We have refs and they will call fouls, out of bounds, and keep score.

Subs

If you’re a sub, bring or wear your gear. There’s a decent chance a spot will open up the day of the tournament!

Reminders

We want everyone to compete, have fun, get a little exercise, and avoid injuries. That’s the vibe. Please try to match it.
What the refs say goes. Don’t complain about calls or a lack of calls.
Expect to get tired. Team basketball is an exhausting game! If you need a break or a sub (as I surely will), please let us know. We will accommodate you.
