Hiii, Honest question: if the people building the most powerful AI systems in the world are asking each other to slow down, are we allowed to stop rolling out every shiny new tool like it’s a mandatory software update from the universe??? 😭 Like, sheesh…what a time to be alive! This week, we’re once again talking about AI, but more specifically, safety playing catch-up, the skills that will actually matter when today’s tools become tomorrow’s digital fossils, and hiring fraud getting so sophisticated that your favorite candidate may be three lies in a trench coat. Anyway, happy Wednesday! Everything is fine (is what I tell myself in the mirror every morning), and HR has somehow been assigned crowd control again. Let's discuss! Sponsored by SixFifty Imagine...your employee just went viral for all the wrong reasons, and now everyone is staring at HR like you personally invented the internet! 😭 Can you take action? Are they legally protected? Does it matter that they posted it during the weekend? SixFifty’s free virtual event, Off-Duty Employee Conduct: Where HR Can (and Can’t) Legally Intervene, will be covering topics like social media posts, political activity, marijuana use, moonlighting, harassment, conflicts of interest, and the state laws making everything extra spicy. SixFifty’s employment attorneys will explain where HR can intervene, where it absolutely should not, and how to build defensible conduct policies using SixFifty’s Policy Library. Register now before someone’s weekend behavior becomes your Monday emergency! 😅 🗞️ Here's the Tea:⌛ Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says AI industry needs to give safety measures time to catch up The TL;DR: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says AI development needs to slow down before the tech outruns our ability to even control it. Other AI leaders agree safety needs to catch up, which is extremely reassuring from the people currently flooring the gas pedal, right??? His plan includes outside safety evaluators, shared industry standards, and global cooperation, which should be super easy and not politically cursed at all! My POV: When the people building the AI start saying maybe we should slow this thing down, best believe I'm SAT. I feel like a lot of HR folks had similar feelings that things were going too fast and it was getting dangerous. I mean, part of our job is to assess risk and a lot of us called out the AI risks immediately. I hope companies will take a beat and make sure they fully understand the risks of deploying yet another AI tool in their org. It could be safety, security, compliance, data, and/or bias... there is a lot to consider here! Also consider that the people telling us to slow down were also the ones saying AI was going to replace us. It's just mixed messaging that should be looked at with a critical eye. And when all else fails, follow the money trail. IYKYK. 🎙️Mic Drop Moment:![]() “Whatever you are trying to plan for right now is going to change in one month.”On the mic this week: Kristin Russum is the Director of Organizational Development at TriNet, where she helps small and medium-sized businesses navigate change and achieve their strategic goals. She brings more than 20 years of HR and organizational development experience across financial services, manufacturing, technology, and other industries. Pin this:
My H*ly Sh*t Moment: The AI tools candidates know today could be obsolete next month, which means the REAL competitive advantage is hiring people curious and adaptable enough to keep learning when the damn rulebook changes again. ▶️ Press Play 📊 Data Is My Love Language:Stat: 58% of HR teams encountered hiring fraud over the past year, with many catching the deceptive practices too late in the pipeline My spiral: What gets me is how far candidates can make it before anyone realizes the freaking person may not be real. 😒 By then, HR has already burned hours interviewing and emotionally attaching themselves to someone who apparently arrived via a creative writing exercise. Fraud detection can’t be the background check’s problem at the finish line anymore…that world is long gone. It has to be built into the entire hiring process! 🏖️ Safe Space Summit![]() 📣 Kayshia Kruger is taking the stage at Safe Space Summit!!! 🧠 Keynote topic: Her session is about why every change model people leaders have been trained on stopped working because they all assume change ends!! AI doesn't have a future state, which is why so many people feel like they're falling behind or failing at something they can't name. She'll breaks down the three rules of change AI has broken and shows leaders how to guide people through a transformation with no finish line. She's got the stories, tips, and research you need to hear about!! 👀 3/4 speakers are announced and ONE more to come... Wanna attend Safe Space Summit? Apply here. Did I mention... That's usually where the real stuff lives! What truth have your employees been trying to tell you...without saying it directly? 🛠️ TRY THIS TOMORROW: Most of your 1:1s this week are probably going to be about the usual stuff…like deadlines and blockers or something. Here’s something a little different you can include: Ask someone: What's one thing you're better at now than you were six months ago? 👂 OVERHEARD IN SAFE SPACE ![]() Why is management guarding Udemy courses like they have the nuclear launch codes???
