Hiii, I loved having an extra day off, but I love cramming five days of work into the remaining four considerably less! 😭 By Tuesday morning, my calendar looked bloated, but at least I expected it??? Speaking of calendars, today we’re talking about why schedule flexibility matters so much more to working mothers than another exhausting round of the remote-work debate. We’re also getting into the systems that keep HR from becoming human Gmail and why launching 13 onboarding documents at a new hire’s forehead might not be the warm welcome we think it is. Here we go! 📢 Sponsored by Aon Employer healthcare costs are projected to jump 9.5% again in 2027, because apparently your budget wasn’t under enough emotional distress already! 😭 Aon wrote an article that breaks down what’s driving the increase through three factors. The article also shows how orgs can turn healthcare data into specific, smarter actions for managing total cost of care. 🤓 🗞️ Here's the Tea:💡 Schedule flexibility may be key in keeping mothers in the workforce The TL;DR: Working mothers care a whole lot more about controlling when they work than working from their couch. Schedule flexibility was a much stronger predictor of retention than location flexibility. Of course, the policy only works if employees can actually use it without being placed on the secret list of people who aren’t committed enough. My POV: We’ve spent years and years arguing about office versus remote work while many caregivers have just been begging for control over their calendars! HR can write the word flexibility in the handbook as many times as it wants, but if using it earns someone fewer opportunities or a reputation for lacking commitment, that policy is no better than corporate fan fiction. 🎙️Mic Drop Moment:![]() “Hard work doesn’t really get you as far as you think it does.”On the mic this week: Liz Clarke is a strategic HR leader and the founder of Liz Clark Coaching and Consulting. My H*ly Sh*t Moment: How you manage your work shapes how much of it your brain keeps carrying long after the workday ends! ▶️ Press Play 📊 Data Is My Love Language:Stat: Employees say only 60% of onboarding materials are necessary My spiral: We’re dropping a small library on someone during their most overwhelming week, so we should hardly be surprised when they don’t remember page 11 of the expense policy! I really think HR needs to get much more ruthless about what new hires need now, what can wait till later, and what should simply live somewhere searchable. Onboarding should build confidence, and if it feels more like unnecessary homework, there’s no telling what info will get skipped in the process. 🛠️ In Your ToolkitI’ve read approximately nine hundred million AI stats this year, and somehow I have nine hundred million more questions! 😩 So on Sept 29, Dr. Ken and I are putting on our Nancy Drew hats and investigating what the juiciest AI numbers mean, for real. Why are they true? What’s happening beneath them? What should HR do differently because of them? Bring your coffee and skepticism, and let’s interrogate some data for the next HR Therapy! 🗣️ UNMUTE YOURSELF Not every hill deserves your blood pressure! Even if it feels like giving up, you eventually realize you’ve explained the same thing in 6 different decks, and these people remain committed to chaos. What’s a hill you stopped dying on because you got tired of fighting? 🛠️ TRY THIS TOMORROW: 1:1s don't need to be a status report every single time. Sometimes the best thing you can do is get a little curious about the person in front of you. Try asking this in your next one: What's one thing you've changed your mind about this year?
