Hi there, Happy Wednesday, fellow chaos wranglers! Not gonna lie, this week has been sooo busy that I can barely look at my calendar without feeling a little overwhelmed. 🫠 But today’s newsletter is worth ignoring Slack for! We’re unpacking why ✨empathy✨ determines whether AI feels like a helpful coworker or a threat, the emotional tax HR pays for doing the job correctly, and why Gen X may be working until the sun explodes. Take a few deep breaths and let’s chat about it! Sponsored by TriNet Too much HR and not enough hours? 🤨 🗞️ Here's the Tea:🤔 Empathetic leaders drive whether AI is seen as an opportunity or a risk, survey finds The TL;DR: New Businessolver data confirms what most HR folks already know, which is that empathy is the difference between AI feeling like a tool or a threat. Employees with empathetic leaders are way more optimistic and in control when it comes to AI, while people in toxic cultures are worried about getting left behind. TBH, the soft skill is doing the heavy lifting here! My POV: Nearly a third of C-suite execs are investing in AI to cut headcount, and somehow they're surprised their people don't feel great about it??? There’s some juicy stats in the article: 89% of employees in empathetic cultures say they got adequate AI training, compared to 33% in toxic ones! If your org is rolling out AI without thinking about how it feels to the people using it, you're rolling the dice with your team's morale. 🎲 This is your reminder that rolling it out and hoping for the best was never a strategy before, and it definitely isn't one now. 🎙️Mic Drop Moment:![]() “We’re dealing with emotions and people’s livelihoods, and those aren’t light things.”On the mic this week: Stacey Nordwall is the VP of People Strategy at Pyn, where she created the 50 Over 50 Women in Tech list and the Guide to Inclusive and Equitable Workplace Communications. My H*ly Sh*t Moment: Doing what’s right in HR is as simple as making sure that, whatever happens, you never lose sight of the human whose life is about to change. ▶️ Press Play 📊 Data Is My Love Language:Stat: 1 in 5 Gen Xers don’t think they’ll ever retire My spiral: When retirement stops being the light at the end of the tunnel, everything about how people show up at work shifts! That might include their tolerance for horrible management or stagnant pay. And TBH, if you've got Gen X on your team, it's probably in your most senior, most burned-out roles. 👀 🛠️ In Your ToolkitRunning HR across multiple states is basically a surprise legal career nobody applied for. Trust me, they’re still saying them somewhere! If you removed fear from your workplace tomorrow, what would people finally start saying? 🛠️ TRY THIS TOMORROW: I feel like the biggest mental drains at work rarely announce themselves as actual problems. They tend to hide inside unclear expectations, which eventually become tiny frustrations that everyone accepts as normal, because people might be too busy to even address them! Sometimes, you have to give people permission to name the thing that’s exhausting them. In your next 1:1, ask: “What’s taking more energy than it should?” Sponsored by Quantum Workplace 67% of orgs have a recognition program, which is cool and all, but there's one small problem... Get the design right, though, and employees are 7.2x more likely to stick around. No huge budget required! Their free report breaks down 5 common design flaws and the fixes. Go download it and tap into a blueprint that works! 🫡 👂 OVERHEARD IN SAFE SPACE ![]() I’ve screamed into the void more times than I can count. At what point do I just design T-shirts that communicate my exhaustion so I don’t have to explain it ever again??? 😅 Read what members had to say here. See ya on Friday! | ||||||||
