Spring is the season of examining our priors. Questioning our assumptions, because it's stupid not to and because it's an important way of life.
Confirmation bias is hiding in the closets we haven’t looked at in too long. WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING, AND ARE WE READING THE LANDSCAPE CORRECTLY?
In this spirit, let's do some spring cleaning. Let's question what we think we know, and decide whether some of the stories we’ve been telling ourselves are still accurate (if indeed they ever were)...
And a note: In our world where there's pressure to know everything and be super confident, this shift in mindset to find out vs. answer outright will serve us.
GOOD PERFORMANCE IS A WEAKNESS
I'm never more nervous than when things are going well. Am I doing enough? What is coming next? When will it end? Good performance is both a blessing an a curse. It's a blessing because we live to win.
It's a curse because when you're winning you can get lazy. I don't want to be lazy. I want to instead use the time when things are good to prepare and to audit and to add!
That's what we'll do together in these next weeks and these first weeks of almost-Spring. We'll prepare and audit and get there early and plot to win.
QUESTIONS OF THE SEASON
These are a few questions I'm asking myself this season, that we'll talk through together in time.
🪻: What is familiar vs. actually working?
🪻: Who defined working, and do you read the data the same way?
🪻: Where did this data originate from, and should we pull it again in case?
🪻: Was this thing tested in the circumstances that we're in now?
🪻: Did we test it with precision?
🪻: Are we moving fast enough? What is slowing us down?
🪻: ARE WE RELYING ON GOOD PERFORMANCE AND DO WE UNDERSTAND WHAT IS INCREMENTALLY MOVING THE NEEDLE?
🪻: Are we early enough to each season?
🪻: Do we have the right channels in play? (I'll talk about this in my next email to you.)
