Hi ya,
Happy Wednesday, chaos wranglers! Hope your vibes are high and you’re prepared for your FIRST midweek ✨mood boost✨ of the year! I'm coming in hot with something I can't stop talking about: fake candidates.
And no, I don't mean the kind that act one way in the interview and then a different personality shows up. I'm talking about actually fake!!! Like fraud.
And we're also talking about why excluding HR from leadership decisions is still the fastest way to light money on fire, plus a stat that explains why “change management” keeps feeling like change trauma. 😬
What a time to be alive!!! Let’s dig in! | |

👀 Fraud attacks run rampant as AI has created the perfect storm. The TL;DR: Experts say 2026 could be the year of AI-powered fraud attacks as deepfakes and impersonation scams accelerate across companies. This is one of the many dark sides of AI!!!
Bad actors are using AI to impersonate employees, manipulate help desks, and even fake job candidates. I've had several friends tell me they are personally dealing with the issue of fake candidates. The forecasts suggest that 1 in 4 candidate profiles worldwide could be fake by 2028. I'll let that sit for a minute... My POV: AI isn't just transforming HOW we do work, it's legit transforming work. The part that I can't get over is a ton of this fraud starts in places HR touches directly: hiring, onboarding, and identity checks. So I hate to say it, but if HR doesn’t help lead on workforce identity and security issues, orgs will become easy targets. This isn’t just a tech issue anymore. It’s a much bigger people + process problem. It's time to take a hard look at your tech and processes and ask yourself if the safety is really there? Especially in a time when a lot of companies don't require verification or even background checks. Now may be the perfect moment to revist those decisions.

“It’s a huge red flag for me when the people leader isn’t in leadership meetings.” |
On the mic this week: Ana King is the Chief People Officer at SAPI with over 12 years of experience across people and talent leadership. She’s worked at companies like Twilio, Trainline, and Google, bringing a deeply commercial and human-centered lens to HR. Born in Romania and shaped professionally in the UK, Ana brings a global perspective that challenges outdated thinking about people strategy.
Pin this: -
Layoffs, pivots, and hiring plans fail more often when people leaders are brought in after decisions are already made.
- HR stopped being an administrative function forever ago. Now it’s one of the most interdisciplinary and regulated roles in the business.
-
Strong CEOs actively champion HR, and that support changes how the entire leadership team operates.
My H*ly Sh*t Moment: When leadership treats HR as an afterthought, they’re actively sabotaging their own long-term success. Just saying! ▶️ Press Play

📊 Data Is My Love Language: |
Stat: 3 out of 4 employees say organizations can’t manage change
My spiral: What this stat tells me is that orgs have an issue with systems and execution. People aren’t even rejecting change itself, either! They’re just reacting to being dragged through it without context or support.
You gotta know how to meet different people where they actually are, or those day-to-day moments of confusion will eventually become the dumpster fire we all know it’s capable of becoming.
It’s too early in the year to let these pile up! |

|
Think about the moments where you adjust how you show up because you already know how things actually work at your org.
There are always unspoken patterns, and that inspired my question this week: “What’s one uncomfortable truth about your company’s culture that no one says out loud?” |
|
|
Trust shows up in little moments you have with your team that build up over time. Taking a direct approach wouldn’t hurt either, like asking:
“What’s one thing I could do that would make you feel more trusted?” |
