Hey good folks and happy Wednesday!
The feeling of fall has officially hit Austin. I even wore a sweatshirt outside this morning while I worked. That only lasted until 10 a.m., but still––baby steps!
This week, some thoughts on what “good” looks like with generative AI. |

What does “good” look like? |
We’re rockin’ and rollin’ with AI workflows, y’all. And I’m getting a lot of questions about how we define “good". The answer to that question is subjective of course because language, while there is a pattern, is nuanced.
So, here is how I think about it: |
Human in the loop––always. |
Every asset we create with AI requires a human review. This person is checking language and flow (does it sound like the uncanny valley? If so, cut it), double checking links and stats, and ensuring copy aligns with messaging. |
Workflow & documentation maintenance |
From there, any asset with edits or feedback that can be applied across assets or asset types gets added to our style guide, workflow rules, or our source of truth documentation. This is to help ensure the entire system continues to produce quality content, and reduce errors over time. |
Finally, “good” looks like passing our exit criteria, which requires a 20 minute copy edit and a 10 minute or less product marketing manager review. If the asset fails either, we dig in to understand why and rework either the workflow or the documentation to get a better draft that can pass the exit criteria. Exit criteria failure puts us at risk of only benefiting from AI productivity, rather than AI efficiency––and so we need to understand what failed where. Usually, it's a documentation issue (i.e. human error) that needs to be addressed. And that’s it. That’s how we work our way toward “good.” How are you and your teams defining what good looks like? |

You do you!
One content marketer’s best practices aren’t always right for another one, though I do try to distill out the main concepts and core practices I believe everyone can benefit from. That said, you must use good judgment when deciding whether to take advice given from folks on the internet. I am an expert, and this advice comes from my direct experience, but I am not smarter than you, and I have nothing to gain or lose because of what you do.

THINGS KEEPING ME CONTENT |
-
What I’m watching: Silver Linings Playbook. Something with a little bit of dark humor. A bit of drama (but nothing too anxiety-inducing). Cute. And a sneaky Christmas movie, too. It’s a win all around.
-
What I’m wearing: A uniform these days. I’m about to rid my closet of nearly everything I own, y’all. I wear the same jeans / shorts and tops almost every day. I love them. I want more of them. Is this what happens?!
-
What I’m eating: Less what I’m eating but… Did anyone else used to drink Kombucha as a hangover cure? Well, I picked some up the other day as a “nice, refreshing mid-day drink” and that sucker had my stomach upset all evening. Never again.
