FROM ONE SALES MILLENNIAL TO ANOTHER
|
There are no silver bullets. But achieving the success you want is simple. Which doesn't mean it's hard.
The book "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson is the master key. It outlines the practical steps to take to create your life's system to take you to where ever you want to go.
Rather than promises of tricks or tips, he emphasizes the wisdom that is found in the power of consistent, small actions over long periods of time. I believe this is the bedrock for any successful Professional.
I've cooked it up, reduced it down and served it in the size of an appetizer. Read the book, or find the 10 steps below. Or both... |
Begin by being clear about the end in mind.
Let me ask: What are your goals? Write them down.
Make them SMART. Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
Don’t just use the target your company set, but think about a goal you have. Now think about how much income you need for a said goal, and then break that down into a revenue target for yourself even if it’s big. Even if it’s scary... |
2️⃣ - SMALL, DAILY ACTIONS |
Now, don't wait. Begin. It's all about the work you actually do, from the systems you create. The outcome will sort itself. So, ask yourself what are the three tiny actions, that when repeated daily, will get me towards my goal? Prospecting? Follow-through? Enablement? Think about it and then get specific. |
Incorporate your chosen actions into your daily routine. Add them to your calendar at the same time as a repeat event. Make sure you execute each event and protect it from distractions. Consistency is key here. Remember, we're playing the long game. |
If you can't measure it, you can't improve it. Start keeping records. From prospecting to your Pipeline.
It doesn't matter how. It matters that you do, so consider: The goal is to track your daily actions and measure the progress.
Goals are great for measuring progress. Executing the system is what will get you to your outcomes. |
5️⃣ - LEARNING IS THE CHEAT CODE |
It's not going to be easy.
But, every time you learn something, it becomes a bit easier. When there are challenges, learn. Adjust your approach. When there is success, learn. Double down on what works. |
Your thoughts shape your reality.
You spend most of your life with your own voice in your head. Do you want that voice to be a pessimist? Annoying? Negative?
Or do you want that voice to be someone that builds your self-belief? Eliminate negative talk. Catch yourself, and switch it.
The same goes for the content you consume. If it isn't making your life better, could it be making your life worse? |
This is the long game. You will get itchy. You will want fast results. And that is normal. But you have to remember to stick to the system/process you have built. Progress will come for sure, but sometimes it takes a long time. Be patient. |
Life changes fast.
Be sure to reflect and review your current goals, habits and actions. Stay adaptable.
Keep picking up new ideas. Let's go. |
A great team mate can make you better. Find someone you trust, that has your ambition and growth mindset. Then share your goals and help each other stay on track. Catch up, check-in and continue to encourage each others' success. |
Celebrate.
You must celebrate your wins along the way. Why not tie something special to when you hit a milestone?
Or hold back from purchasing that thing you want, until you get the win? It's important to acknowledge your achievements.
Keeps you hungry. |

Let's go. Has anyone ever created a one-slide on "the person they want to be"? And stuck it to the wall?
Or had it as a screensaver? Last one, does anyone else make sure their password is their goal? I log-in to multiple SaaS platforms every day, just saying...
