Oh, where were we? Ah, yes. I owe ya 25 tips, tricks, and musts. 

*The below the fold of your website homepage edition* 

We are BELOW THE FOLD PEOPLE. Meaning, your sweet lil angel customer has landed on your website. Then, they scrolled!!! We love to see it. So, here's what we do next: 

1. The ultimate goal of the above the fold of your homepage isn't to get your customer to go below the fold.

The goal of the above the fold is to get your customer to either:

🤑TAKE ACTION (Click that lil shop now CTA, we dare you)

or

🛍STAY A WHILE!!! (Just don't bounce, please and thank you).

2. This is a great second module (what I call the second section of the homepage - the one right under the hero). 

3. And, this one too (I mean, it's Apple, AKA the best to ever do it). 

4. Hell, this one three.

BTW, FULLY OBSESSED WITH THE NEW HEXCLAD SITE. The best cookware ever. Chic. 

5. Normally, I love Net-a-Porter.

You know this. Daniel knows this. American Express knows this lol. However, I have a few problems with their current homepage. Let me explain:

6. In the above screen recording, I paused to show you where I landed (on mobile, iPhone 12 Pro Max). 

The second module is great!! In fact, it's incredible. It's clear, it's showing brands I want to shop, products I wouldn't mind snagging, and it's educating the shit out of me.

Sadly, this doesn't matter. WE ARE MISSING A CTA BUTTON IN THE HERO HOMEPAGE. WTF?????????? Net-a-Porter, how could you. 

7. And, please don't get me started.

An underlined, 'Shop the new season' doesn't count. It's the least eye-catching CTA I've seen in a while. I'm sad. 

8. Here, our beloved Net-a-Porter made the cardinal sin. They chose form over function. Meaning:

Net-a-Porter preferred to show me an uninterrupted party trick. (The hero gif where the sun is setting behind the models). They chose to highlight their perfect, artistic scene, and to set the sun on CRO. 

I love a cute party trick. A hero video is my love language. A hero video (or hero gif) without a PROPER CTA BUTTON? Heartbreaking. 

9. Net-a-Porter also didn't catch that the line-break of the sentence 'New arrivals, now dropping five days a week - discover the latest launches from Monday to'

.....

MONDAY TO WHAT? MONDAY TO WHAT!!!!!!!!! 

10. Complete your sentences before going below the fold.

Make every transition on your website feel intentional. 

11. And, don't forget to QA your site ACROSS DEVICES. This really matters.

Make it responsive, and treat your iPhone 12 Pro Max customers with the same respect you'd show the iPhone 14 Pro bunch. 

12. I am also a big fan of a clear break between the hero (above the fold module) and module 2.

Net-a-Porter lets both modules bleed together, but that becomes a lot to read and a lot to look at for your ever-busy customer. Focus their attention, and make one point at a time. 

13. Rebuy does this well (on their website homepage).

Clear division between hero module and the modules that follow. 

14. Fwrd also does this well. Clear delineation. 

WOULD'VE LOVED the CTA to be within a button as an overlay on the homepage hero here. 

15. SOMETHINGNAVY did this perfectly. Smooth. Crisp! 

16. Sentence Case For All CTAs. Test Your Way Into This But At Least Don't Just Default To All Caps. Promise Me? 

17. Here's yet another Sentence Case CTA example, from Patagonia's site:

18. Whether we're above the fold or below the fold, we're always going to COMPRESS OUR IMAGES BEFORE WE UPLOAD THEM TO OUR SITE.

Right?

19. Now that we're below the fold, ADD TO BAG and ADD TO CART buttons are your very best friends. 

20. Don't be shy. Let's DRIVE TO CART!!!!!!! I mean it. Like GXVE Beauty does. 

21. I love a Quiz Funnel. Below the fold of homepage is a great way to help customers who are a lil lost. Let's guide them. 

If you put a quiz too high up on your website, you're potentially confusing someone who may have found it out themselves. 

But, as a customer goes deeper and deeper on homepage, they are looking for something. Often, what they are looking for is a lil help. A NUDGE. NUDGE THEM TO YOUR QUIZ. Then, have your quiz recommend a popular SKU that fits their exact dreams, wishes, and criteria.

22. Great quiz placement / quiz funnel example by Jones Road Beauty.

Love the 'Find My Shade CTA'. 

23. This Meet Your Match CTA (on the Haus Labs site) that leads to their foundation quiz) is also perfectly positioned. 

24. WOW your site visitor.

They are deep in your homepage right now, and may be ready to bounce. Or, to convert. But, what if they bounce??? 

Make them fall in love with your brand. With your product. Let them experience something. A lil Easter Egg (a fun, unexpected, slightly hidden website twist) does just the trick. 

25. My single favorite Easter Egg.
