Cash Accounting

An accounting method where income is only recorded when money has actually been received and expenses are recorded only when they are paid. It's the easiest to use and most familiar type of accounting system, and many smaller businesses choose to use it. However if a business has over $5 million in sales a year, or if they keep an inventory of merchandise to sell to customers, they are legally required to use Accrual Accounting instead.
