Business Plan

A business plan is a more traditional way of gathering your plan for starting and running your business. In some ways they can be helpful, as one of the most common mistakes people make with new businesses is simply that they don't recognize how many things are involved in starting a business.

If you're attempting to secure a grant or loan, you may be required to write a business plan. Even if you're not, it is still helpful to force yourself to think through all aspects of the business, even if you're just guessing.

There are business plan templates all over the internet and they can be as simple or complex as you want them to be. At the end of the day, you want to cover things like:

  • What the business is and what services are offered
  • Who your target customers will be
  • How you'll turn those customers into jobs (grassroots marketing , advertising, etc)
  • Who your competitors are and how you're different
  • What expenses you'll have to get started (equipment, labor, etc)
  • How much money it'll take to get started
